Review: Mike’s Pastry Boston

It is never a good idea to walk into a pastry shop when you are hungry. You know you will order and eat the worst possible things that would ruin your diet. However, on Feb. 13th I did just that out of despair that every single restaurant in Boston North End required an hour plus wait.

My boyfriend and I were both hungry and grumpy and we couldn’t bear the thought of waiting for another hr or two for dinner. Then, we saw Mike’s Pastry, selling allegedly the best Canoli in Boston. There was a long line out the door while it was 25 degrees out. We knew it must be true or these people must be crazy! We went in line and thought having some pastry would hold off our hunger until our table is ready.

Long Line at Mike's Pastry

So we were in line for about 10 minutes and finally got to order our share of pastry. They have a great selection of Canoli, ricotta pies, Italian cookies, pastries, and cakes. It was very hard to even decide what to get. Out of hunger, we decided to get 3 canolis, Zeppole Cream Pie, and Chocolate Dipped Florentine.

We tried the pistacchio canoli first and it was amazing. It is one of the biggest canoli I have had. The shell is crispy and the ricotta cream is fresh. At the same time, we swallowed down the chocholate dipped florentine cookie, which is crispy and tasty too. Before we realized we ate too much, I had half of chocolate covered canoli in my stomach already.

Whipped Cream Zeppole

All I can say is this is truly one of the best canoli I have had in the United States, outshining Veniero’s or Ferrara in New York.  If you are in Boston, definitely visit this Canoli Mecca!
